MySpace falls further in social network rankings, LinkedIn now no. 2

Albuquerque Express Tuesday 12th July, 2011

MySpace has continued to slide despite new ownership and a dash of celebrity pizzazz from Justin Timberlake, falling to the number 3 spot behind LinkedIn and Facebook in terms of US web traffic.

LinkedIn is now the second most visited Web site in the United States, with 33.9 million unique visitors to the site in June, an increase of half a million from May, according to data from comScore, the Internet analytics firm.

Meanwhile, MySpace lost 1.5 million visitors in the same month, with 33.5 million visitors in June. However, MySpace still has around 15 million more active users than LinkedIn.

The social networking site has 130 million active users compared to LinkedIn’s 115 million.

However, the former social networking giant, hammered and defeated by the rise of Facebook, is quickly becoming a shadow of its former self and has struggled to reinvent itself in the new market.

In the past year, MySpace has lost tens of millions of unique users. In June 2010, the network had 66 million users. Now, even Twitter looks set to eclipse the network in the next few months.

All of that data is ancillary to the behemoth that is Facebook however. The social networking giant in June had 160 million unique visitors and some 400 million active users.
