The U.S. Men's National Team will meet El Salvador in a friendly on Dec. 9, U.S. Soccer announced Sunday.
The game is set to be played at Inter Miami CF Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, only 2,500 spectators will be admitted.
This will be the third match for the USMNT in less than a month. The American squad beat Panama 6-2 on Nov. 16 and played a scoreless draw against Wales four days earlier.
Both of those games were contested in Europe. This will be the first international friendly in the United States since a 1-0 victory over Costa Rica on Feb. 1 in Carson, Calif.
"Playing against El Salvador gives us an opportunity to face a Concacaf opponent that we haven't seen yet and will be a valuable experience," USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter said in a statement. "We want to build on this year's work while continuing to evaluate the player pool as we head into a busy 2021."
The U.S. team and staff will stay in a "controlled environment" in a hotel and undergo multiple COVID-19 tests before and after arriving in South Florida, U.S. Soccer said. No team training will take place until all arrival tests are confirmed to be negative.
Because of the pandemic, the U.S. employed European-based players for the two friendlies earlier this month. Berhalter is scheduled to name the roster for the El Salvador match on Tuesday.
